Roasted Butternut Squash and Brussel Sprouts with Bacon

I love fall foods. There is nothing better than rich, stick-to-your-ribs, hearty kind of food. I love eating foods that are seasonal, and this recipe is one that has two of my favorite fall veggies. The best part is that it’s easy enough to cook on a weeknight but would also make a fantastic Thanksgiving side dish.

Halloween 2017 Recap

I love all things festive. I might not have the best execution for decorating or dressing up, but I like getting to pretend to be someone else for a night. So I think I was more excited for Halloween this year than Luci was. Last year we took Luci trick-or-treating but we only went to handful of houses since she was a baby. This was her first year of getting to walk up to houses and say trick or treat to get candy. Continue reading

Mom Guilt

Mom Guilt, that ever present feeling you get as soon as you see that plus sign on the pregnancy test. The feeling of trying to do everything perfectly and have it all together while chaos rages around you. And you’re trying to live up to the mythical standard of the perfect mom. You know the mom that has her stuff together and you have no idea how she does it all.

Allow me to introduce myself

Hello my lovely reader! My name is Katie and I’m an almost 30-year-old wife to Justin and momma to almost 2-year-old Luci. We have a French Bulldog Zoey who is our daughter’s best friend but the feelings are not mutual.
I’m a former HS Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher and a former daycare teacher, who left teaching to figure out a new career path.
My passions include reading and cooking and traveling to near and far away places. The beach is my happy place, but I love the energy I get from exploring a city. I also love chocolate, coffee, and a glass of wine. And cupcakes…and donuts…pretty much anything that is made with sugar I want to eat.
Our family life has been impacted with my daughter and husband having Lyme’s Disease among his other health issues. There’s always a possibility of a flare-up and repercussions from that. Life doesn’t give you breaks, and I’ve learned how to try and do my best to roll with the punches. I’ve also learned tips and tricks on how to use food to heal…which really limits my above love of sugar.
I’ve always loved writing and have had a nagging voice in the back of my head for years going you need to write this down. After one of my best friends started her own blog, I figured why not just go for it. But my real spark for writing this was after spending the morning with my sick daughter. I mean toddlers are naturally fun, but adding on a fever is just icing on the cake. That day the morning was full of whining and getting things…oh you want a sippy cup, here you go. Wait not this one, okay I’ll go get you the other one. Oh you want both of the cups okay. I was lucky enough to get a few cuddles in. But after I crashed on the couch after getting her down for a nap, I started scrolling through Instagram. I follow certain women for their amazing talents, but along the way have shared their struggle of infertility. I sat on my couch with tears in my eyes, and thought how rough the morning was but I so lucky to have my baby girl. Not everyone is blessed to be able to have a morning like I had, I didn’t want to forget that.
So here it is, my musings. Motherhood and being a wife is hard, but so worth it. I’m not here to spout how wonderful my life is, because some days it sucks. But I always try to look for that silver lining, that moment that made me smile, the moment I pray to Jesus at the end of the night and thank Him for blessing me with that moment that I so desperately needed.
So thanks for reading and for following along on this momma’s journey. I promise I’ll be as real as possible and share some yummy recipes along the way.
And these are my most favorite two people in the whole world, and my inspiration behind this blog.
